“I Got a Name” by Jim Croce
J for Jukebox | By angela | May 23 2013, 2:00 pm
I watched Django – it was pretty long, like Lord of the Rings style long, but that’s ok – it had a good soundtrack.
This is one of the songs.
Listen here:
Kumbaya here:
Like the pine trees lining the winding road
I got a name, I got a name
Like the singing bird and the croaking toad
I got a name, I got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I’m living the dream that he kept hid
Moving me down the highway
Rolling me down the highway
Moving ahead so life won’t pass me by
Like the north wind whistling down the sky
I’ve got a song, I’ve got a song
Like the whippoorwill and the baby’s cry
I’ve got a song, I’ve got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, I go there proud
Moving me down the highway
Rolling me down the highway
Moving ahead so life won’t pass me by
And I’m gonna go there free
Like the fool I am and I’ll always be
I’ve got a dream, I’ve got a dream
They can change their minds but they can’t change me
I’ve got a dream, I’ve got a dream
Well, I know I can share it if you want me to
If you’re going my way, I’ll go with you
Moving me down the highway
Rolling me down the highway
Moving ahead so life won’t pass me by
Moving me down the highway
Rolling me down the highway
Moving ahead so life won’t pass me by
“Golden Slumbers” by The Beatles
J for Jukebox | By angela | May 2 2013, 3:08 pm
I just love it.
Listen here:
Kumbaya here:
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby
“Dreaming” by Mayer Hawthorne
J for Jukebox | By angela | April 18 2013, 2:26 pm
Wow Mayer Hawthorne is the shit. What a fun/lovely song! I think I’m going crazy! La la la la!
Listen here:
Kumbaya here:
I had a dream today
Somewhere I’ve never been before
An old familiar face
One that I swear I’ve seen before
And I think I’m going crazy
Yes I think I’m going crazy
But I known, all along
But there’s no restitution for what we’ve done
No resolution and I
I just can’t take it anymore
I had a dream today
That California sank below
And along the way
They watched their favorite TV show
The suns were all around
The golden gate was broken down
How heavy is the hail
But where’s that old and faithful from
And I think I’m going crazy
Yes I think I’m going crazy
Because I known, all along
That there’s no restitution for what we’ve done
No explanation and I
I just can’t fake it anymore
Bubububababa
Bububababa
Badom
Things will never be lonely
Bubububababa
Bububababa
Badom
Things will never be lonely
Who knew the sun wont shine
Could be so detrimental
I had a dream today
That boxatony traveled round
At much to there dismay
They saw a shadow on the ground
And I think I’m going crazy
Yes I think I’m going crazy
Because I’ve known, all along
But there’s no restitution for what we’ve done
No substitution and I
I just can’t take it anymore
I had a dream today
Somewhere I’ve never been before
A Robyn Dance Party
Feature Article • J for Jukebox | By angela | April 11 2013, 2:13 pm
I don’t know what you do on your Saturday afternoons but I have a Robyn Dance Party.
I’m not even going to post lyrics, because if you don’t know them, shame on you!
I had to post 2 songs because basically, I just alternate between the two. Sometimes an odd favorite pops in there. And depending on the day, it can look like either:
Scenario A:
Call Your Girlfriend, Call Your Girlfriend, Call Your Girlfriend, Dancing on My Own, Call Your Girlfriend, Dancing on My Own, Call Your Girlfriend, Dancing on My Own, Call Your Girlfriend, Call Your Girlfriend, Call Your Girlfriend, Dancing on My Own.
OR
Scenario B:
Dancing on My Own, Call Your Girlfriend, Dancing on My Own, Dancing on My Own, Call Your Girlfriend, Dancing on My Own, Call Your Girlfriend, Call Your Girlfriend, Show Me Love, Dancing on My Own, Dancing on My Own, Dancing on My Own.
Similar, yet completely different, all depending on mood. And really the songs span a wide variety of emotion from dance, to party, to breakup, to upbeat, to life and sentiment. Really there’s a little bit of something for everyone. So dance, your, heart, OUT! Happy Kumbaya Thursday!
“Sight of the sun” by Fun
J for Jukebox | By angela | April 4 2013, 2:48 pm
In case you’re missing Girls, here’s a memory from the last episode.
Listen here:
Kumbaya here:
For once there is nothing up my sleeve
Just some scars from a life that used to trouble me
I used to run at first sight of the sun
Now I lay here waiting for you to wake up
The city outside still sounds like it’s on fire
You put on new sheets
The white flag of a Saturday night
I know we stayed up talking in circles
But I like to think the symmetry
Will keep me close to you
For everyone, I’m out to pull wrong, you keep the light on
The only one, you now me better than the truth
So despite what I’ve done I pray to God that we can move on
Cause thus far you are the best thing that this life is yet to lose
And, for once there is nothing up my sleeve
Just some scars from a life that used to trouble me
I used to run at first sight of the sun
Now I lay here waiting for you to wake up
I lay here waiting for you to wake up
So if you gonna leave, if you gonna go
I can’t bear to sleep without you in my arms
I know we got caught up slipping through a crowd of people and losers
But you must not let them take you
They don’t know you like I do
For once there is nothing up my sleeve
Just some scars from a life that used to trouble me
I used to run at first sight of the sun
Now I lay here waiting for you to wake up
I lay here waiting for you to wake up
Do you remember when we stayed up till the sun stretched through the room
I used to blame it on the queens walking down 7th Avenue
It’s been years now since we moved
I’ve gotten through with an excuse
You know I try not to speak superlatives
But it’s impossible to you
The city outside is nothing but a flicker now
You see our friends to bed, you turn out the lights
I start to think you’ll make a beautiful mother, I
I like to think I have everything I want from this life.
“Everywhere I go” by Janet Jackson
J for Jukebox | By angela | March 28 2013, 2:30 pm
I’ve made it clear, I love 90s music! Or maybe I just can’t stay current either or…
Listen here and KUMBAYA with the video because there are lyrics on that bad boy too!
